There are moments in life when you don’t realize how much you need someone until they show up.
Joining Sisters in Success came into my life at a time when I was still learning to believe in myself. Like many women, I’ve walked through pain, setbacks, disappointments, and moments where I questioned whether I was enough. But being part of this group reminded me that healing doesn’t have to happen alone.
One of the greatest blessings on this journey has been opening up to trust women again and having the blessing to encounter Ms Lois Jarman. I call her my angel, but she is definitely my inspiration, my safe space, my Mentor. I call her the goat; y’all call her Ms Lois.
She became more than a mentor. She became my sister.
From the very beginning, she saw something in me that I struggled to see in myself. She encouraged me, challenged me, and reminded me that my past did not define my future. Every conversation, every word of encouragement, and every act of kindness helped rebuild pieces of my confidence that had been broken for years.
Because of her encouragement, I found the courage to go back to school. She believed I was capable long before I fully believed it myself. That kind of support is something I’ll never take for granted.
Having someone genuinely care about you can change everything.
For so long, I carried the weight of feeling like I had to figure life out on my own. But through Sisters in Success, I experienced what true sisterhood looks like—women lifting each other up instead of tearing each other down, celebrating each other’s victories, and reminding one another that we all deserve another chance to grow.
This journey has taught me that success isn’t only measured by titles, degrees, or accomplishments. Sometimes success is learning to trust yourself again. Sometimes it’s allowing yourself to accept love, support, and encouragement. Sometimes, it’s simply believing that your story isn’t over.
As I continue my journey in school, in my career, and in my purpose of helping others through reentry and recovery, I’ll carry the lessons and love I’ve received from this sisterhood with me.
To Lois, thank you for believing in me when I needed it most. Thank you for speaking life into me, encouraging me to pursue my education, and reminding me that I am worthy of every opportunity that comes my way. Your kindness has left a permanent mark on my heart, and I will always be grateful for the sister you’ve been to me.
To my Sisters in Success family, thank you for welcoming me, loving me, and reminding me that I never have to walk this journey alone.
This isn’t the end of my story.
It’s just the beginning!
With love and gratitude,
Patience Dorsey
